Nomex® and related aramid polymers are related to nylon, but have aromatic backbones, and hence are more rigid and more durable. Nomex® is the premier example of a meta variant of the aramids (Kevlar® is a para aramid). Unlike Kevlar®, Nomex® cannot align during filament formation and has poorer strength. It has excellent thermal, chemical, and radiation resistance.

Lenzing FR® is a specialty viscose fiber. The abbreviation FR stands for "flame resistant“. Lenzing FR® is a natural fiber derived from wood. It offers protection from heat and flame in a variety of different applications. Unique thermal insulation properties combined with permanent flame resistance make Lenzing FR® a "Heat Protection Fiber“. It offers protection from all kinds of heat and its functional properties help to prevent heat stress and heat stroke. Combined with Nomex® fibers - adds to the thermal, chemical and radiation resistance.

Polybenzimidazole® (PBI) fiber (1983) is a synthetic fiber with an extremely high melting point that also does not readily ignite, because of its exceptional thermal and chemical stability.PBI® is used to fabricate high-performance protective apparel such as firefighter turnout coats and suits, astronaut space suits, high temperature protective gloves, welders' apparel, race driver suits, braided packings, and aircraft wall fabrics.
